Imeem

I found another site where you can listen to and share songs. Called Imeem. Loyal readers will remember when I found 8-Tracks.

This is a Josh Ritter tune:

Snow Is Gone – Josh Ritter

Bummer of Imeem: embed only gives you 30 seconds. You can listen to entire catalogues on the site, though. Worth checking out that song, and Ritter’s catalogue.

I was first introduced to Ritter in 2001, or 2002, by a roomate, and have been happily following his development since then.

Last summer (summer 07) I saw him play a concert with the violinist Hilary Hahn, which was wonderful. Her Bach came out when I was working at Tower Records in manhattan in 1998. That was a good thing about the job – got to listen to music all shift. I worked there while at the Ailey School, which at the time was just a few blocks away. That was the bad thing about the job: dancing dancing dancing, standing standing standing.

I’ve always hoped that someday I’d get the chance to work with musicians like Josh, and Hilary. That’s been my favorite part about doing Bourgeon: having the excuse to interact regularly on an artistic level with other artists. For those who haven’t been to the Bourgeon site recently, I just did an update adding some video of Sharna Fabiano.

Sharna has blown up a bit recently since being picked as one of Dance Magazine’s “25 to Watch.” She has an all-female tango company. The way that she uses a traditional form to make modern dances reminds me of the best things about contemporary ballet.

I posted that song cause I used to have a company called Blackbird, and am a fan of William Billings (may explain some other time; early american composer.) This picture was taken of me at one of the Blackbird shows. The back-flippy thing was one of my favorite moves…
